Putting India back on the top of world hockey is the biggest tribute the Indian youth can pay the hockey wizard Dhyan Chand, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju said while participating in a programme organised on the occasion of Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary which is being celebrated as the National Sports Day, on the AU campus here on Thursday.

Prof. Raju garlanded the statue of Dhyan Chand near the Golden Jubilee Ground of AU. Earlier a rally consisting of sportspersons and members of sports associations was held from YMCA to the AU campus. Department of Physical Education of AU and the Olympic Association of Visakhapatnam organised the programme.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Admn) D.N. Kishore, while flagging off the rally at YMCA, stressed the spirit of sportsmanship and will to achieve success.

Registrar of AU K. Rama Mohana Rao, president of the Olympic association S. Kodandaramiah, Director of Physical Education of AU M. Syam Babu, former Olympian M.V. Manikyalu, Dronacharya awardee I. Venkateswara Rao were present among other sports officials. Prof. Raju honoured a senior professor of fine arts of AU and walker and writer M. Adinarayana. Prizes were given away to Dhyan Chand memorial hockey tournament for boys and girls held earlier.
