An attempt to stage a dharna and distribute leaflets by a group of workers of Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) to know the management’s response to their demands was foiled by the police on Saturday.

About hundred women workers and INTUC district secretary Pydiraju were detained when they were going in autos towards the BIAC Special Economic Zone at Atchutapuram junction and were later shifted to Elamanchili Police Station.

INTUC State vice-president N. Ramachandra Rao said he submitted a representation to the management seeking an immediate decision to increase minimum salary to Rs. 10,000 a month.

He said it was unfortunate that the management had not kept its word to convey their response to the workers’ demands by month-end.
