R.R. Girish Kumar, Director General of Police, is going to inaugurate the new Rajahmundry Urban Police District on Sunday. Additional DGP (Law and Order) will also accompany the DGP along with other top police officials.
Mr. Girish Kumar will inaugurate 5 blocks in the present District Training Centre and offices of SP, Additional SP, Special Branch, DCRB and DPO staff and ministerial staff will be accommodated in this office.
Present Officer on Special Duty Mr. P. Umapati has taken charge on Friday as first Superintendent of Police for Urban district in the presence of Eluru range DIG Mahesh Bhagawat and East Godavari SP G. Srinivas.
Four DSPs out of seven (7) posted by the government also reported to duty along with new SP. They are M. Madhava Rao (Central), K. Srinivasa Rao (Crime), Y. Satti Babu (South) and A. Prabhakar Rao (East) reported on Friday.
The Urban District Police Office (DPO) is going to be located at Bommuru. “We are starting new offices with five to eight well furnished sheds in DTC with a total strength of 1,273 police of all ranks including women police in three years,” said DIG Bhagawat.
Along with new DPO, District Armed Reserve, Motor Transport Station, Bell of Arms (weapon storage cell) will be constructed in a phased manner, added DIG.
“If every thing goes well we will have new construction within one year and part of the staff that is 473,” explained DIG.
New SP Umapati and East Godavari SP G. Srinivas hoped that the presence of large number of police officers will reduce crime against women, white collared offences, reducing road accidents, SC, ST atrocity cases and immoral trafficking and increasing enforcement.
The DIG said that in western countries every there is a policeman for every 1000 people, where as in India it is one policeperson for 10,000. He said that all state governments are trying to increase the strength of the police.
