Delicate surgery saves 62-year-old

A 62-year-old man, who had the main blood vessel of his body (aorta) ruptured, was saved by doctors, through a complicated surgery recently.

Jayadev Guha from Kolkata, who suffered the rupture from the level of his chest till the pelvic region, was first taken to a hospital in Kolkata. But, the doctors declared the condition serious and not fit for surgery.

With chest pain and difficulty in breathing, the patient had the blood supply to his kidney and lower limb got cut off, leading to renal failure. He was advised amputation of both legs.

He was admitted to Seven Hills Hospital in the city, senior consultant vascular and interventional radiologist Sibasankar Dalai told the media. Dr. Dalai, senior cardio thoracic surgeon Karunakar Padhy and a team of doctors performed the surgery for the first time in Andhra Pradesh on April 24 and 25.

The patient has recovered fully from his life-threatening illness and would be discharged in a few days, he said.
