The Andhra Pradesh Government is likely to take a decision on Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation elections by the month-end by exploring a resolution to the court cases against the merger of villages between the City and Bheemunipatnam.
The Urban Development Minister will be in the city and discuss on how to sort out the issues raised by the five villages - K. Nagarampalem, Kapuluppada, Chepaluppada, Nidigattu and J.V. Agraharam – against the merger for formation of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, HRD Minister and Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao said. He was speaking after inaugurating the Rs.30-crore sewerage pumping station at the Convent Junction here on Thursday.
The Government is keen on resolving the issues of the villages and complete the merger of the five villages and Bheemunipatnam into GVMC and conduct elections, he said.
In 2013 the State Government had notified the merger of 10 villages – K. Nagarapalem, Kapuluppada, Chepaluppada, Nidigattu, J V Agraharam, Thadi, Salapuvanipalem, Rajupalem, Valluru and Koppaka – and Anakapalle and Bheemili into GVMC.
The merger of Anakapalle and five villages Thadi, Salapuvanipale, Rajupalem, Valluru and Koppaka went off without a hitch, however, the five villages between City and Bheemili had moved the High Court. The court had taken note of the objection and ordered the Government to complete the panchayat elections in these villages.
The elections to GVMC were not conducted in view of the issue pending in the courts.
