: With the existing ESI Hospital at Gandhigram having fallen into disrepair and it being located on land leased from the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, a new hospital is being built at Thungalam village in Sheelanagar.

The bhoomi puja for the new 200-bed ESI hospital with secondary care medical treatment would be performed by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya on Monday. Plaque for the foundation stone would be unveiled by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Union Ministers of State Nirmala Sitharaman and Y.S. Chowdhary would be in attendance.

The new building, coming up on 6.80 acres, would have state-of-the-art design and facilities comparable to any corporate hospital in the country, according to Joint Director Sub-Regional Office ESIC T. N. Nayak in a statement released here on Saturday.

The hospital would have all secondary care treatment, super speciality services in cardiology, nephrology and oncology, all diagnostic facilities, accident and emergency facilities, operation theatres for general surgery, orthopaedic, obstetrics and gynaecology, eye and ENT. Apart from immunisation and family welfare facilities, it would also offer AYUSH facilities.
