Vizag journalist Chintakindi Srinivas' collection of Telugu short stories focuses on the lives of manual scavengers

“By writing about the pain and sufferings of the underdogs in society I believe I can to some extent absolve myself of the sin of being a part of the exploiting class,” says writer and journalist Chintakindi Srinivas. A collection of 14 of his short stories – Dalappa Thirtham – is scheduled to be released by noted poet and writer K Siva Reddy at a function being organised by literary organisation Monday Mosaic here on Friday.

Srinivas, who has been a journalist for over two decades, revived his interest in the short story and has penned over 30 stories in the last decade or so. The focus on the subaltern combined with his use of the North Andhra dialect make his stories stand out. His ability to use the dialect effectively has endeared him to the readers and earned the respect of his peers and critics. The main story of ‘Dalappa Thirtham’ is based on the life of members of a community of scavengers who used to carry the night soil. The book release function is a part of a three-day programme titled 'Three evenings with Siva Reddy'. A series of lectures and discussions on his works are planned on Saturday and Sunday.
