Dairy workers owing allegiance to the AP Milk Producers Coooperative Sangham Secretaries and Workers Union took out a rally from Gajuwaka to Visakha Dairy on Thursday protesting the non-implementation of minimum wages to the secretaries and staff. The rally concluded with a sit-in dharna opposite the gates of the Visakha Dairy. It may be recalled that the workers were already on a relay-hunger strike for the past six days demanding minimum wages.

Addressing the workers, union working president J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy said that there were about 1,800 milk collection centres under the purview of Visakha Dairy in the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. The workers at these centres, who were the backbone of the dairy, were not being paid minimum wages.
