Declare cyclone Hudhud damage a national calamity, says Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who reached here on Monday to take charge of relief operations following the severe cyclonic storm Hudhud, will brief the Prime Minister on the extent of damage and urge him to declare the disaster a national calamity.

Mr. Naidu indicated after a review meeting here that he would urge Mr. Modi to release funds immediately for restoration work.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here on Tuesday and undertake an aerial survey of the cyclone-affected areas of the port city and other districts in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will arrive here by a special flight at 1.15 p.m. Mr. Naidu, who visited affected areas, said relief operations were on a war-footing with help from the Navy, the Air Force and the NDRF.
