Continuing the enforcement measures following ban on plastic carry bags below 40 microns thickness that came into force from August 1, the six zone commissioners and assistant medical officers conducted raids on shops on Friday and seized such bags.

A fine of Rs.1.87 lakh was imposed on liquor outlets, wholesale shops, retail and grocery stores, eateries, and flower shops using the bags.

To create awareness among people, they presented flowers to those who came to shopping with cloth and other non-plastic bags.
