The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) has criticised the decision of the State Cabinet cancelling the tenders for the Bhogapuram Airport.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the GMR Group had filed the tenders. AAI had bagged the tender as it had agreed to give a greater share of the profits from the airport to the State government, CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao said in a statement on Sunday.
The AAI is a Central government organisation and would stick to its commitment but the State government had cancelled the tender, as GMR Group failed to bag the tender, he alleged. The State government wanted to favour GMR Group to get commissions but was not interested in the development of the State.
He alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government was preparing to hand over the 2,703 acres of land, acquired from the people for construction of the international airport, to private companies on a platter. He said that PPP-mode of development was nothing but a ploy to favour private companies. T
his has been happening for the past 25 years. He demanded the reversal of the decision to scrap the tenders for the Bhogapuram Airport.
Mr. Narasinga Rao demanded cancellation of the tender given to Adani Ports and SEZ in PPP mode for construction of the Bhavanapadu Port in Srikakulam district.
He alleged that the Adani Group had defaulted loans taken from banks to the tune of ₹96,031 crore. He said that it was unfortunate that the Telugu Desam Party and BJP governments were promoting private companies, which could harm the interests of the State.
