CPI(M) demands election schedule

August 17, 2017 01:01 am | Updated 01:01 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM

Alleging that fixing the number of wards without issuing the election schedule is dilatory tactics, CPI(M) has demanded that the schedule be immediately announced.

Three-and-a-half years had passed since Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had promised during the elections that municipal elections would be held in 100 days, CPI(M) city secretary B Ganga Rao said in a statement.

Only three writ petitions against merger filed by TDP leaders were pending in the High Court, Mr. Ganga Rao said. Though GVMC officials had sent a proposals for de-limitation of wards in August 2013, the proposal was not cleared till now with a view to delaying elections, he said.

The actual process of delimitation and reservations should be immediately taken up and the election schedule announced while trying to get the petitions withdrawn, he demanded.
