CPI opposes plan to organise Visakha Utsav

December 11, 2014 12:20 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:05 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

CPI State assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy has taken exception to the plans to organise Visakha Utsav next month.

There were occasions when the event was postponed for much simpler reasons, he said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The city had not recovered from the effect of cyclone Hudhud, he said and demanded that the money proposed to be spent on the festival be used for the welfare of the poor or on improving slums.

Though Visakhapatnam was being described as an important city, the posts of Police Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner, and VUDA Vice-Chairman were yet to be filled, he said.

For the administration to run effectively and avoid delays, particularly after the cyclone, the appointment of officials was essential, he said.
