Police Commissioner J. Poornachandra Rao declared awards of Rs.1,000 to each of the auto drivers and others who were instrumental in catching the culprits in the house-breaking incident at Marripalem VUDA Layout on Thursday. One of the thieves had a fatal fall while trying to escape from the fourth floor of the apartment building.

Autorickshaw drivers Ramu, Chanti and Santosh, fruit juice seller Manikanta Swamy, mechanic Raju, apartment watchman Narayana, house owner Kavita and her son Badrinath were all rewarded for their role in catching the culprits and preventing them from escaping.

The cash rewards were given away by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Brahma Reddy at a function organised at the VUDA Community Hall in VUDA Layout on Friday evening.

Kancharapalem CI K. Prabhakar, SIs U. Thamma Rao and B. Simhachalam, ASI V. Manohara Rao and scores of residents attended the function.
