Telugu Desam and YSR Congress Party Corporators of Rajahmundry Municipal Coporation came to blows after a heated argument ensued over sharing of seats in the Council Hall. Police had to be called to separate the two warring groups.

When the Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai commenced the Council meeting, the YSRCP Corporator Bontu Srihari raised strong objection to the way two TDP Corporators Maturi Ranga Rao and S. Nagamani were allowed to occupy his seat and the one next to him.

Even as the Mayor asked the TDP floor leader Varre Srinivas to settle the matter, another TDP Corporator Palika Srinu picked up an argument with Mr. Srihari. Corporators of the two parties got divided into two groups and started shouting at each other while some rushed towards Mayor’s seat.

TDP MLA and ex-officio member Mr. Butchaiah Chowdary warned the YSRCP Corporators with serious consequences to which the opposition MLC Mr. Adireddy Apparao responded angrily. Other MLCs and MLAs joined the fray and indulged in wordy duel while corporators started pushing each other.

The situation was about to take an ugly turn when the police intervened for the first time in the history of the Rajahmundry Corporation and brought order.
