Around 1,400 post-graduate dental students specialising in prosthodontics in the dental colleges across the country are expected to attend a three-day 16 Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) PG students’ convention to be held at GITAM University here from Thursday.
The convention is being held to promote prosthodontics and bring awareness among general public about this specialty, president of IPS K. Mahendranath Reddy informed at a press conference at GITAM University on Wednesday.
“Prosthodontics is a specialty of dentistry which deals with replacement of lost teeth using artificial materials, like in the case of other body parts like ear, nose, eyes, fingers etc. Using implants is the latest way of replacing lost teeth, which is also dealt with by prosthodontics”, Dr. Mahendranath Reddy said.
President of Dental Council of India Dibyuendu Muzumder will inaugurate the convention. Noted prostodontists Rajeev Upadya from the USA and Robert Craddock from Germany along with many stalwarts of our country have been invited to deliver oration and keynote lectures.
The IPS, the Andhra Pradesh Prosthodontics Forum and GITAM Dental College are jointly organising the convention.
Sand sculptureAs part of public awareness exercise a sand sculpture on different aspects of prosthodontics is being created at Rishikonda beach on June 5. The president, the secretary and immediate past president of IPS will unveil the sand sculpture.
