‘They are important in view of growing population and to ensure safety of pedestrians’
Expressing concern over the plight of pedestrians, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, and Special Officer of GVMC, S.K. Joshi, instructed the municipal corporation to erect foot over bridges wherever necessary.
Mr. Joshi, who was in the city for a two-day visit, inspected a number of ongoing projects on Sunday.
Construction of foot over bridges was all the more important in view of the growing population and to ensure the safety of pedestrians avoiding accidents, he told officials.
He saw the foot over bridge constructed at the Government Junior College at Pendurti and complimented the process. However, it should have been wider and railing stronger, he suggested.
Apart from the 19 proposed in the two Bus Rapid Transit System corridors, as many foot over bridges as required should be erected, he said. Revenue options from bus shelters and bridges should be exploited. The Special Officer saw the ongoing BRTS corridor works from Hanumathavaka to Pendurti and again from Pendurti to NAD, where road widening works were going on at Vepagunta, Baji Junction, and NAD. Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana, VUDA Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj, GVMC Additional Commissioner M. Janaki, Chief Engineers of GVMC and VUDA B. Jayarami Reddy and I. Viswanatha Rao participated.
