Congress ticket aspirant for the Araku Assembly segment Setti Gangadhara Swami and his follower Baka Babu Rao were arrested by the Araku Valley Police on Friday in connection with the attack on the car of Union Minister of Tribal Affairs V. Kishore Chandra Deo.
The attack and damage of Mr. Deo’s car was videographed by police constables and based on the video footage, the two were arrested and some other persons who were also involved in the attack would be arrested, according to Araku Inspector Y. Murali.
Mr. Deo and some others were going in his car from Araku Valley to Paderu on Thursday afternoon to file his nomination papers for Araku Lok Sabha seat. As his car was crossing Araku, a group of followers of Gangadhara Swami, stopped the vehicle and attacked the car with sticks and damaged the windscreen and bonnet of the vehicle.
YSRCP activists, who were passing by in a rally, threw stones at the police.
Mr. Gangadhara Swamy, who was denied the Congress ticket for the Araku Assembly segment, was reportedly of the view that Mr. Deo, who is the Congress nominee for the Araku Lok Sabha, had a role in his being denied the ticket for the Araku Assembly.
