The Congress which promised introduction of prohibition in its 2004 election manifesto was now making huge money from the liquor syndicates, not bothering about the health of people, CPI State secretary K. Narayana said here on Wednesday.
He was addressing participants of a dharna organised by the party in front of the office of Excise and Prohibition as part of the State-wide programme to condemn the government for its excise policy and the liquor mafia making huge money by selling liquor much above the MRP and almost running a parallel government.
Mr. Narayana also lit an effigy of the liquor mafia. Earlier a rally was held from the Maddilapalem junction to the Excise office in front of the Dr. V.S. Krishna Govt. College.
While the Government was getting Rs. 17,000 crores as license fee, liquor merchants, mafia, Ministers and people's representatives were making Rs. 40,000 crores, he alleged.
The Ministers and MLAs of the ruling party, who were behind the liquor syndicates must be punished and the Government must reveal the names of those recorded by ACB in its raids on liquor syndicates, he demanded.
The CPI leader warned that the party would mobilise people to launch attacks on liquor shops.
Mr. Narayana demanded the Home Minister to resign owning moral responsibility for the attack on another Minster Shanker Rao.
