S. Gopal (67), senior Congress leader and Chairman of the AP Building and other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, died at a private hospital here on Saturday.
Gopal, who was a trade union leader, remained a bachelor to serve the cause of workers and the public. He served as Chairman of the Welfare Board for three consecutive terms during the tenure of the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his successor K. Rosaiah and the present Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
He was instrumental in getting several benefits for workers during his tenure as Chairman of the Board.
“He (Gopal) had dedicated his life to politics,” said his brother S. Divakar, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police. Mr. Divakar can be reached on mobile no. 98480 55668.
Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas expressed shock at the death of Gopal. He recalled Gopal’s contribution to the welfare of workers.
