A steady stream of visitors called on T. Raja Rao, elder brother of T. Dharma Rao, a 1989 batch IAS officer, who died in an accident in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, and consoled him.
Raja Rao and his sister Nirmala were seen grieving over the death of their brother at their home at Seethammadhara in the city on Thursday evening.
Dharma Rao, who was Commissioner of the Industrial Board in Bhopal, his wife Vidya Rao and some other IAS and IPS officers from Madhya Pradesh had gone on a pleasure trip.
They were on their way from Leh to Nobra, when their car swerved and plunged into a gorge on Thursday morning.
The other persons who died were identified as Vidya Rao (wife of Dharma Rao), Kumudh Singh (wife of Shivendar Singh, CEO of Ujjain Development Authority) and driver Chemet Dorjay of Hamaskot, Kargil.
“My brother and his wife were in the first car and both of them were killed in the accident. Luckily, his two sons were in the third car and they are safe,” said Mr. Raja Rao in a grief-stricken voice.
“My brother had done his B. Tech from Andhra University and Management from IIM, Kolkata. He joined the Shipping Corporation of India in Mumbai in 1984 and served there till 1989. He was selected to the IAS in 1989. His elder son Prateek Rao has completed B. Tech and second Tanmay Rao is in 10 class,” said Mr. Raja Rao, who retired as Principal of Bullayya Junior College.
“The bodies are expected to arrive here by a chartered flight from Delhi by 4 p.m. tomorrow,” he said.
