Concern over spurt in atrocities against children

May 23, 2014 10:20 pm | Updated October 22, 2016 04:03 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Expressing concern at spurt in cases of atrocities against children, the newly constituted State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sought complaints on any violation of child rights for initiating immediate action.

“Child rights violations are taking serious dimensions despite constitutional guarantees and protection of legal enactments. In spite of the existing mechanism for the protection and promotion of child rights in the State, as we notice today, the situation is very grim,” commission member S. Balaraju said.

He said as per law, corporal punishment, child marriage, engaging children in work and denial of their entitlements as per Right to Education Act of 2009 and trafficking were punishable.

Keeping in view of all the factors, the State commission which is constituted during February has urged agencies involved and individuals concerned to bring to its notice for suo moto cognisance.

Mr. Balaraju is the designated authority to receive complaints in Visakhapatnam, who can be approached by calling 9440131561 or 9441825181 on email scpcrsbr@gmail.com orbalarajunature@gmail.com.
