Large number of Central government employees form human chain

A human chain was formed at Ambedkar Circle at Dabagardens on Friday in protest against corruption and demanding introduction of an effective and comprehensive Lokpal bill to curb it.

A large number of employees of LIC, GIC, banks, BSNL, postal staff, medical representatives, and pensioners participated in the protest. They displayed placards demanding that Prime Minister be brought under the purview of the Lokpal.

They were also seeking comprehensive electoral reforms and withdrawal of neo liberal policies, which were the root cause of corruption.

General secretary of Insurance Corporation Employees Union N. Ramanachalam alleged that corruption reached its peak as a result of the neo liberal policies.

Mr. Ramanachalam aid there was a nexus between bureaucrats, politicians, and corporates.

The human chain was led by Mr. Ramanachalam, Krishna Mohan (Bank Employees' Federation of India), Prabhakar Rao (All India Bank Officers' Confederation), Latchi Raju (BSNL Employees' Union), Ramesh Naidu (AP Medical and Sales Representatives Union), Rama Sarma (GIC Employees' Association), Chandrasekhar (LIC Development Officers' Association), T. Satyanarayana of LIC Agents Organisation and, Tirumal Rao of LIC Agents Council. ICEU president B.B. Ganesh presided.

A public meeting will be held opposite the Gandhi statue near GVMC on Saturday evening to express solidarity with Anna Hazare and to seek introduction of Jan Lokpal Bill. India Against Corruption representative C. Balasatish appealed to people of the city to participate in large numbers and make the protest a huge success.

He said that VYOM, a group of young artistes, would perform live and young volunteers would explain the proposed Jan Lokpal bill.

Gudimetla Satyanarayana Sharma, who was on fast for five days, and freedom fighter S. Gopala Sastry would address the gathering.
