Continuing their good work, a team of three community guards at Ramakrishna Beach, rescued two youths from getting drowned here on Thursday.

The community guards -- Sreenu (20), Polaraju (18) and Yellaji (19) -- rescued M. Ramakrishna (18) and B. Mahesh, residents of Rangareej Veedhi in the Old Town area.

According to Sreenu, who has so far rescued about 10 people from drowning at RK Beach, the guards from their watch tower noticed that the beach revellers were slowly getting into the danger spot, which is located opposite the Novotel Hotel.

“We immediately ran to their rescue, as rip current was in full flow today, and they were being sucked into the ocean. With the help of lifebuoys and ropes we reached them and dragged them to the shore. But by that time they had gulped some quantity of water and we administered some basic first aid and let them go,” said Sreenu.

The community guards who work as lifeguards on the beaches, mainly at RK Beach, Yarada and Rushikonda, are ill-equipped and they do not even have basic equipments such as life jackets and risky tubes.
