A meeting of all the stakeholders in the Community Guards Voluntary Organisation (CGVO) was held at the Police Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
Police Commissioner J. Purnachandra Rao chaired the meeting in which officials of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), Simchachalam Devasthanam, HPCL, representative of CMR group and other private organisations attended.
Advisors to the CGVO Kasim S. Mehdi and Prof. A. Prasanna Kumar underlined the importance of mutual cooperation and trust between the police and the public. They commended the city police for training the community guards and giving them a livelihood apart from providing the services of trained and reliable security personnel to the enlisted companies and other organisations.
Mr. Purnachandra Rao said that the first batch would be completing their training in the next few days. The organisation was registered on May Day this year. The trainees would be given two pairs of uniforms and have been equipped to meet various security needs. He commended the trainees for doing extremely well during the training course, which would conclude on October 16.
The services of trainees from the fishermen community would be utilised by HPCL to work onboard ships. The enlisted companies could requisition the services of the trainees as per their requirements. In all, 25 persons were trained in the first batch and in the next batch, which was planned to be started by October 20, 75 to 150 persons would be selected for training.
Mr. Purnachandra Rao said that the selection criteria was ‘fitness’ and the other parameters would be on the lines of the police recruitment. The recruiting companies could be rest assured as the antecedents of the trainees would be checked before selection. The community guard would be entitled for a honorarium of Rs.250 a day or Rs.7,500 a month on par with home guards.
The enlisted companies have to pay a membership fee and bear the training cost.
