In a tragic incident, a young community guard is believed to have drowned after saving another person at the Yarada beach on Sunday evening. He was identified as K. Mahesh (23), bodybuilding champion and ace swimmer. According to New Port Police SHO G. Sirinvasa Rao, the community guard, along with another colleague Chinna, jumped into water after hearing cries of help from a person. Both the guards swam hard to save him. While Chinna was dragging the person to the shore, it appeared Mahesh was caught in the cross current. After pulling the person to the shore, as Chinna looked back Mahesh was not to be seen.

In another case, R. Gowtham (24) from Tadepalligudem drowned at the sea opposite a star hotel. According to Two Town Police SHO Mallikarjuna Rao, the deceased had come along with his friends to attend a wedding. Five of them had gone to the beach. While four had gone for a swim, one was on the shore. “He was swept away by a sudden surge of current,” said the SHO. The body was recovered by police swimmers and members of Blue Colts and had been sent for post-mortem.
