Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana has appealed to bankers to cooperate in the implementation of urban poverty alleviation programmes. Addressing the bankers on Friday, he called upon the bankers to provide interest-free loans to self-help groups through bank linkages. He also appealed to them to assist in poverty alleviation for provision of jobs to unemployed youth under the SGSRY programme.
Mr. Satyanarayana said that measures were being taken to provide online services through banks for payment of all taxes.
He said that there was great scope for development of city through Central grants, JNNURM funds and HUDCO loans and sought the cooperation of bankers in this regard.
While the target for property tax collection during the last financial year was Rs.147 crore, this year the target was Rs.200 crore. The Commissioner felicitated bankers who had completed more than 80 per cent of the target under various government schemes last year.
Lead Bank Manager P. Jayababu said that Rs.500 crore loans were advanced in urban and rural areas during the last financial year. He said that the cooperation of UCD, MEPMA officials had helped in recovery of loans without overdue.
He said that the bankers would cooperate in achieving the target of poverty alleviation programmes.
