Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) M.V. Satyanarayana on Sunday directed officials of the Public Health Department to gain the confidence of people by inspecting sanitation works from time to time and checking outbreak of epidemics.

The Commissioner inspected Pata Venkojipalem, Nakkavanipalem, Seethammadhara, Hindu Muslim Colony and other areas in the city, where a number of malaria cases had been reported on Saturday.

He visited the homes of those suffering from malaria and told them what precautions should be taken to prevent diseases.

He asked them about the work of the sanitary staff and effectiveness of anti-larva operations.

Later Mr. Satyanarayana held an emergency meeting with medical officers under the auspices of the District Medical and Health Officer and spoke on the measures to be taken to check the spread of malaria. He directed the officials to ensure adequate supply of drugs to all dispensaries.

He also asked them to hold medical camps wherever needed.

He directed Senior Medical Officer Srinivas to set up a central monitoring cell at the GVMC Main Office to secure daily status reports on malaria and viral fevers, and take remedial measures.

DMHO G. Savithri suggested appointment of gynaecologists at Arilova and Sriharipuram to provide better services to people.

Additional Commissioners S. Krishna Murthy and P. Purnachandra Rao were present.
