The State governmentshould make all efforts to stall the 100 % strategic sale of equity in the city-based PSU, Dredging Corporation of India, and also the proposed 10 % disinvestment in the steel plant.

A resolution was passed here on Friday at a meeting convened by the CITU, in which trade unions, intellectuals, representatives of various political parties participated. CITU State president Ch. Narasinga Rao, YSR Congress Party leader Malla Vijaya Prasad, Congress leader G. Bharati and several others participated in the meet.

Several speakers said A.P. should take a leaf out of the book of Tamil Nadu that stalled privatisation of Ennore port and Salem steel plant.

They said when the Modi Government decided to privatise Ennore port and Salem steel plant in the name of strategic sale, the Tamil Nadu Cabinet resolved to bring pressure on the Centre to drop the move since it was detrimental to the interests of the State.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should also do so, especially, since the Telugu Desam and BJP were allies both at the State and the Centre. The Chief Minister should exert pressure on the NDA Government to revoke its decision, they pleaded.

The meeting decided to collect five lakh signatures and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, and also present letters to Ministers, MPs and MLAs.

The movement would be intensified, if the government did not heed to the public opinion, Mr. Narasinga Rao threatened.
