Full dress rehearsals to be held tomorrow

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would be the chief guest at the operational display on the Ramakrishna Beach being organised as part of Navy Day celebrations on Thursday.

The operational display to be held on Thursday evening will have 20 ships, 23 aircraft and a submarines showcasing the capability and versatility of Naval ships, submarines, aircraft and the Special Forces.

People of the city can view from RK beach, manoeuvres by destroyers, stealth frigates, corvettes, fast attack craft and landing ships, beach assault by marine commandos, sky diving, close range anti-aircraft firing, band performance, formation anchoring and a host of other exercises.

An aerobatic display by advanced light helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Airforce Sarang display team would be the highlight of the operational display.

The full dress rehearsals for the ‘operation demonstration’ will be held on Tuesday.

In the morning the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Satish Soni would lay a wreath at the War Memorial on the RK Beach and later in the evening host an ‘At Home’ for select invitees at his residence.

The Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 to mark the victory at sea of the Indian Navy when it choked Pakistan economy by successfully blockading Karachi Harbour in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

Flypast precautions

In view of the number of aircraft flying low past the beach on Tuesday, during the full dress rehearsal and on Thursday’s operation demonstration’ people are requested to keep the beach and its neighbourhood litter-free and avoid bringing food items to the beach as these attract birds, which poses a threat to the aircraft.
