Recognising the valuable contribution of senior citizens during their service in various capacities and with an objective to provide a pleasant place to spend their leisure, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority has taken up the construction and development of senior citizens' centre.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah will lay foundation to the centre and a guest house on a 1,600 square yard site on the picturesque beach road, adjacent to the Victory at Sea memorial, at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.5.60 crore and the construction period 18 months.
After interacting with senior citizens on a few occasions, VUDA Vice-Chairman B. Sreedhar planned the construction of ‘a unique and exclusive facility' for them. The initiative and interest shown by him resulted in the Senior Citizens' Centre materialising, says a VUDA release.
Mr. Sreedhar said the project is to express gratitude to senior citizens in recognition of their contribution to society. VUDA feels the project as its social obligation and the overwhelming support from senior citizens led to its materialising, he added.
The Vice-Chairman invited members of the senior citizen organisations Sneha Sandhya and Vintage Visakha and all the senior citizens for the foundation-laying function.
