Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu renewed his diplomatic passport at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here on Friday.
Mr. Naidu had obtained the passport in Secunderabad in 2014. Since he shifted his residence to Undavalli after that, he had to seek renewal from the RPO, which covers the State after bifurcation.
Though he was scheduled to visit the RPO at 12.10 p.m., the Chief Minister, who came to the city to participate in a series of programmes, was delayed by over an hour.
Passport Officer N.L.P. Choudary received the Chief Minister and took him to his chamber. After a few minutes, he was taken to the adjacent room, where his fingerprints and photographs were taken. The process was completed in 10 minutes and the Chief Minister was again ushered into the Passport Officer’s chamber as the printing of the passport would take a few minutes. The passport was issued in 15 minutes flat.
The media was not allowed into the chamber.
Later, Mr. Choudary said that the Chief Minister was impressed by the good work being done at the RPO.
The woman entrusted with the task kept everything ready, but the system settings got changed after the security personnel conducted a check before the arrival of Mr. Naidu. Hence, she took a few more minutes to take the photograph of the Chief Minister.
Land issue
Mr. Choudary brought to the notice of Mr. Naidu the problem of regularisation of a bit of land belonging to the RPO. The Chief Minister immediately directed the officials concerned to initiate action on the issue.
The police made strict security arrangements around the RPO and cordoned off the roads leading to the office located at Marripalem VUDA Colony. Security personnel scanned the office building and a sniffer dog was taken to the rooms where the Chief Minister was to be taken for the fingerprint scan, digital photographs, and other processes.
