There is a need to understand the purpose of various laws in detail to fight against the gender inequality battle. Education acts as a weapon to guard against atrocities on women that crop up in numerous forms, Principal District Judge and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority V. Jaya Surya has said.

Addressing a large gathering of women at the legal literary camp on protection of women’s rights and Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994, organised by the DLSA and Sri Gayatri Welfare Cultural Youth Academy, recently, he said: “Every problem has a solution. Understanding legal proceedings, adopting the right approach to deal with the problem makes all the difference.” Similar camps in tribal areas have brought a significant change in the mindset of rural folk, he added.
