The first-ever phone-in programme, Dial Your Commissioner, by B. Ramanjaneyulu on Wednesday brought to the fore several civic problems - mostly pertaining to road repairs, encroachments, sanction of plans, and revision petitions of property tax pending.
While small issues such as streetlight not working would be solved as early possible, the others would be addressed by the respective assistant (zonal) commissioners, at the most by a week, the Commissioner said, adding he would like to see how effectively the zone system worked.
Officials at the zone-level would get in touch with the residents to sort out the issues. If not redressed at the zone level, they will be referred to the HoDs in the GVMC. All the complaints will be computerised. Complaints relating to documents will be taken up at the zone level on Saturday and a final decision will be taken the next Saturday at the Commissioner's Office.
Of the 24 complaints received during the one-hour phone-in, four each are from Zones I, II, and III, two and three from Zones IV and V respectively and the maximum seven from Zone VI comprising Gopalapatnam, Vepagunta, and Pendurti areas. Coupled with Zone I (towards Madhurawada area) and Zone V Gajuwaka, the peripheral and newly merged areas account for 14 complaints.
Cell tower
From Simhachalam RTC depot in division 69, Gollareddivanipalem in Division 70, Ravindranagar in divisions 3, division 4, and Ratnagiri Colony near PM Palem, it was about roads damaged or not being laid even after dumping material. From AU out gate a resident complained about not getting water. At Sitammadhara, it was the menace of stray dogs. From division 15, a resident complained about a streetlight not burning for three months. From division 25 in the One Town area, it was about an unauthorised cell tower. Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said permission from the GVMC should be obtained for erecting cell towers.
A BSNL official complained that an apartment coming up behind their office at Dabagardens was encroaching upon their land. From division 13, a resident wanted two encroachments to be removed from the stormwater drain on which work was going on.
From Aganampudi in division 56, residents wanted conversion of education zone into residential and the Commissioner said it would be taken up with VUDA.
