Severe heat wave-like conditions prevailed in the city as also in most other places in Seemandhra on Thursday. Most of the places in Andhra Pradesh recorded over 40 degree Celsius. However, Kurnool and Anantapur recorded 38 and 37.1 degrees C respectively.
Waltair (Visakhapatnam city) recorded 40.4 and Visakhapatnam Airport 43 degrees. Tuni-44, Kakinada-42.6, Narsapur-42.5, Gannvaram-42.5, Machilipatnam-43.2, Bapatla-43, Ongole-42.5, Kavali-41.5, Nellore-41, Tirupathi-40, Hyderabad-38.7, Nizamabad-39.1, Ramagundam-40, Nandigama-41.3 and Rentachintala recorded 43.6 degree C, according to a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) here.
Daily wage workers and petty vendors had a tough time in going to their work. Some complained of blisters on their face and body due to the extreme heat and said they had never experienced such high temperature in Vizag in the recent past.
The recent thunder storm, which brought down mercury levels, and the subsequent sharp rise in temperatures have resulted in spurt in cases of fever.
Mothers were a worried lot as many of the schools reopened on Thursday after the long summer vacation. They feel that the holidays should be extended till the temperature comes down.
The CWC has warned fishermen of strong surface winds from a westerly direction with speed reaching 45 to 55 KMPH along and off south coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours starting from 6 p.m. on Thursday.
