An Automated Red Light Violation Detection (ARLVD) System, installed at the busy Jagadamba junction, was launched by City Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy on Wednesday.
The ARLVD system has already been installed at Satyam Junction and Urvasi Junction on National Highway-16 in November, 2010 and this is the third in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shivadhar Reddy said that that the new system ensured a foolproof way of checking the jumping of the red signal by motorists. Some more ARLVD s would be installed at some other junctions in the city with the technical support of the Matrix Security and Surveillance Private Ltd (MSSPL) to prevent signal jumping by motorists. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V. Suresh Babu said that after effectively implementing the helmet rule to prevent serious injuries to two-wheeler riders, the focus would now be on preventing the jumping of red-signal at major junction.
Explaining the features of the system, General Manager of MSSPL, Ajay Varma told that the system has magnetic field (electronic sensor), placed on the road, which was integrated to the video and digital cameras with flash and an industrial PC mounted on a pole. As the signal turns red, the system becomes active and detects the violating vehicles. In the process, video cameras start recording the violation and simultaneously the digital camera captures the photographs of the violating vehicles.
The violation data would be processed and a traffic challan would be generated along with the image registration plate and sent to the owner of the vehicle by post with all the details of violation including photographic evidence, date, location and place of violation, Mr. Varma said.
