The message for a healthy body and a healthy mind through yoga caught up with Vizagites on Thursday. Since early morning young and old alike were seen moving to various destinations to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations in the city.
Leading the celebrations was the district administration that organised a programme at the GVMC Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium. The programme was jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Department of Yoga and Consciousness, Andhra University, and Department of Ayush. The team was led by MP K. Haribabu, Collector Pravin Kumar and other district officials. A large number of students also participated in the programme.
The day was celebrated at RINL at the M.P Hall in Ukkunagaram Club. Kishore Chandra Das, director (personnel), RINL, inaugurated the yoga session. Over 400 persons, including RINL employees and their family members, members from Art of living, Brahma Kumaris, Chinmaya Mission and Junior Chamber of India (JCI) participated.
Over 300 Coast Guard personnel, including 35 officers, under the aegis of Coast Guard Commander (ES) celebrated participated in the International Yoga Day at the Coast Guard Residential Area, Malkapuram. Sunita Nautiyal, president of Tatrakshika (Eastern Seaboard) was chief guest during the occasion.
AP Special Protection Force organised the celebrations in a unique way by involving deaf and dumb children.
To spread the awareness of yoga, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, organised a mass yoga session for all employees and family members. The session was inaugurated by Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral (Retd) LV Sarat Babu.
Aqua yoga at ENC
IYD was observed by all units under the Eastern Naval Command spread across the Eastern Seaboard from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu. Special Yoga sessions were also conducted in unique forms and places including ‘Aqua Yoga’ in the swimming pool, underwater yoga in submarines, MARCOS yoga on the waves, beach yoga and hill top yoga atop Dolphin Hill.
IYD was also observed on all ships and the sessions was led by Flag Officer Commander-in-Chief of ENC Vice-Admiral Karambir Singh.
Dredging Corporation of India Limited organised ‘mass yoga’ for its employees at its head office. Rajesh Tripathi, CMD of DCI, led the yoga session and shared his personal experiences about the advantages of practising yoga on a regular basis.
The celebrations at Andhra Medical College, was led by its principal P.V. Sudhakar. Over 100 students and faculty members participated in it.
Isha Foundation celebrated the day by offering free yoga sessions at several locations in the city. Simple but wholesome practices like ‘Yoga Namaskar’ and ‘Shambhavi Mudra’ were demonstrated to participants.
NSS volunteers to St. Joseph College for Women organised session at the college. Under the training and guidance of college yoga instructor Siva Sankar, the students performed various asanas. The Art of Living Visakhapatnam, organised a session for Visakhapatnam Port Trust. Inaugurating the session, VPT Chairman M T Krishna Babu spoke on the importance of spreading yoga and that it brings inner peace. Swami Hariharan ji from The Art of Living demonstrated various mudras and asanas.
IYD was also celebrated at various schools and colleges such as Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, Lendi College of Engineering, Vignan Institute of Information Technology and Skill Development Institute.
