The sighting of the moon marks the end of the month-long fasting of Muslim brethren across the world. As the moon was viewed on Sunday evening, there were smiles of satisfaction while Muslims ushered in Ramzan on Monday.
Greeting ‘Eid Mubarak’ and embracing each another, the devout people visited the mosques and offered special prayers. Application of attar (perfume) and surma (kohl) form a part of the festival celebrations. Dressed in their best, Muslims spent a major part of the day with their family and friends savouring kheer made of vermicelli seasoned with generous portions of dry fruits and relishing biryani .
Distribution of alms to the poor and needy is synonymous with the celebrations. Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered in several mosques. “We seek blessings of Allah and pray for universal brotherhood and peace. More than 1,800 people offered ‘namaz’ at the masjid marking the celebraitons,” said Moulana Bashir Ul Qadri, Imam of Macca Masjid, Jagadamba Junction.
A large congregation of Muslims offered ‘namaz’ at Idgah, Kotaveedhi. MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, former Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas and managing director of A.N. Beach Hospital C.M.A. Zaheer Ahmed and former VUDA Chairman S.A. Rahman offered prayers.
In addition to a number of mosques, devotees entered Abu Sarang Street Masjid to offer special prayers on the occasion. Moulana Abdul Zaleel Khan at Yasin Masjid said Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered on the premises and hundreds made their way to the place. Special prayers were also held at Jamia mosque at Chengalraopeta and other places in neighbourhood across the city.
