Christmas is incomplete without Santa Claus, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, stockings filled with presents and, for those with a sweet tooth, Christmas cakes and puddings.

The Gateway Hotel on Saturday invited in-house guests and a few prominent people from the city to herald the holiday spirit by soaking dry fruit and a variety of nuts in spirit to add to the cake mixture before baking.

There was a lot of excitement at the mixing ceremony, as participants gathered to admire the nuts and dry fruit that had been spread on the table to look like Santa Clause and a snowman. Cameras came out and everybody took turns to pose with the design before pouring a variety of spirits into it and mixing it all up.

The hotel will put away this mixture for the next year and will use the mix from last year to bake the cakes for this season.

The hotel will be setting up a cake shop from December 21 for Vizagites to enjoy a variety of traditional cakes and other Christmas delicacies.
