Chain snatcher arrested, booty recovered

A chain snatcher, who snatched the gold chain of a woman after attacking her with a knife, was arrested by the City Police.

M. Simhachalam Naidu (28), native of Gijaba village in Vizianagaram district and resident of Akkayyapalem in the city, went to the flat of L. Vasantha Kumar on the fourth floor of GRK Grand at H.B. Colony on Oct 17.

He asked her for a glass of water and when she went into the house, he attacked her with a pen knife on her throat and snatched the 4.5 tolas of gold chain.

The accused was arrested by the city police near the Sangam Office junction here on Friday and the stolen chain was recovered from him.

The police said that was the first offence of the accused and he was suspected to have indulged in the crime as he had a debt of ₹5 lakh for two years.

The case was solved by Assistant Commissioner of Police (CCS) Y. Govinda Rao, Inspectors K. Rama Rao (East Zone) and Ch. Shanmukha Rao (Dwaraka Zone) and their team.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Shemushi Bajpai commended the team for the speedy detection of the case.
