Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana: Work on the abattoir at Paradesipalem in an 11.4-acre site will begin in a week
The Central Government has released Rs.1.5 crore towards taking up construction of a modern abattoir proposed at a total cost of Rs.30.74 crore.
Work on the abattoir at Paradesipalem in an 11.4-acre site will begin in a week, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana has said.
The work is scheduled for completion in nine months.
Proposals for the abattoir have been sent to the Central Government in 2010-11. Vizag Foods Company has won the bid in an open tender process.
The GVMC general body had approved it in February 2010 and the State Government in May of that year.
The project was sanctioned by the Food and Agriculture Ministry this April, Mr. Satyanarayana said in a statement.
While 50 per cent of the funds are provided by the ministry, the remainder will be borne by the successful bidder.
The abattoir will have a slaughtering capacity of 2,000 goats and 500 cattle a day.
