Asserting that there has been a systemic failure of officials in fraudulent land allotments in VUDA, MLC from North Andhra Graduates Constituency M.V.S. Sarma has urged Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to seek a CBI inquiry into it.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said as reflected in the report of the VUDA Vice-Chairman submitted to the government, many serious irregularities took place in several allotments, illegal and fraudulent transactions took place cheating genuine allottees and abetting registration of sites to third parties. The report also confirmed the key role played by the then Estate Officer A. Jagadeesh with the active connivance of lower cadre staff, brokers and benamis, possibly influencing past vice-chairman of VUDA also, and ignoring the reports of officials of the Revenue Department, the MLC said. The Vice-Chairman estimated loss of revenue to the government to the tune of Rs.539.49 crore.

Mr. Sarma wanted the Chief Minister to cancel all illegal allotments of plots, instruct the Registration Department to stop registration of such plots, register criminal cases against the then Estate Officer and his “accomplices”, outside brokers and benamis and suspend the officials named in the report by the VUDA Vice-Chairman.

The MLC said the Income Tax Department should be informed of the names of individuals who cornered huge extent of plots so that it could act swiftly to break the financial nexus of the land mafia.

To break the nexus between officials, brokers and land mafia, higher and lower level officials who had been clinging to their posts for nearly three decades should be transferred, he said.
