Cash being transported belongs to SBI

: Cash to the tune of Rs. 570 crore being transported from Tamil Nadu in three containers and was intercepted on Friday night, leading to speculations of several kinds on the eve of Assembly elections in that State, belongs to the State Bank of India.

A senior official of SBI here confirmed on Saturday that the cash is meant for this area and is being brought here. “The amount is required as the ATMs are running dry and we have indented it, secured proper permission from the RBI and provided proper escort,” Assistant General Manager M.V.S.S.N. Prasad told The Hindu .

Confusion

The bank officials here have no details of why it has been stopped some time after it left Coimbatore and the reasons for the confusion and rumours that followed.
