The MVP Colony Police registered a case against Collector Pravin Kumar and the Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department, D.V. Ramana Murthy under SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act for alleged negligence in sanctioning compensation to a woman.

The police said the 22-year-old woman had to receive compensation amount from the Social Welfare Department in a case registered in August 2016, under Sections 417, 420, 376 and 34 of IPC and Section 3 (1) (S) and 3 (2) (V) under SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act against a youth for duping her going back on his word of marrying.

On a petition filed by the woman alleging that she had not received the promised amount despite submitting all documents and repeated requests, the SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Special Court in the city directed the MVP Colony Police to register case against the two and investigate.

Expressing faith in the judicial system, a statement issued by the Collector’s Office said in cases relating to prevention of atrocities and SCs and STs all necessary steps were being taken and the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee was holding its meetings at mandated intervals. The woman applied for further relief on October 10, 2016 and October 17, 2016. Based on the advice of the Public Prosecutor, another ₹.3.5 lakh was sanctioned on December 10, 2016 and was deposited in her account on January 7, 2017.

At no point of time there was delay and writ petition No.37552/2016 was still pending in the high court, the statement said.
