September 27, 2013 08:59 am | Updated June 02, 2016 03:29 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The city unit of the AP Working Journalists Federation condemned the case filed against Resident Editor of The Hindu S. Nagesh Kumar and demanded that the Government withdraw it. A delegation of the unit submitted a memorandum to Collector Solomon Arokia Raj on Thursday to this effect. It was not proper on the part of police to file a case against Mr. Nagesh Kumar and arrest crime reporters in Hyderabad in an act of grudge for the newspaper and news channel bringing out a report on DGP Dinesh Reddy, the journalists body said and termed it an attempt to stifle freedom of the press.

Protection sought

It wanted Governor ESL Narsimhan to intervene and take action on Mr. Dinesh Kumar. The State Government must provide protection to journalists and the police must stop harassing journalists, the federation demanded. State secretary of the APWJF Gantla Sreenubabu, city president P. Narayan, secretary P.U.S. Bhaskar, organising secretary D. Ravikumar, treasurer R. Nagaraj Patnaik and others submitted the memorandum.
