A two-day career counselling programme, being organised jointly by the Urivi Vikram Charitable Trust (Visakhapatnam chapter) and Visakhapatnam City Police, got underway at the Jan Shikshan Sanstan (JSS) at Pithapuram Colony here on Wednesday.
Presiding over the inaugural session, trust chairman UNB Rao, who is a retired IPS officer, clarified the doubts of school children regarding education and career. He told the children that education was the basis to achieve one’s goal in life. Children should choose their career based on their area of interest and parents should also guide them in making a wise choice.
Kaveri Dey, a reader in the English Department of Andhra University, said that life skills were abilities that enable a person to adapt to a given situation. She called upon the children to develop a positive attitude. She said that the best option for 10 plus 2 students was pursuing a course in ‘Home Science’. She spoke on the importance of English language for success in any career.
Short film director Kamal Sucharan spoke on careers in mass communication.
Vice chairman of the trust Atul Rathi said that 24 experts would give valuable information to students on various career options during the two-day programme.
Field Publicity Officer M. Mahesh, JSS Director K. Satyanarayana and trust member U.S. Veerabhadra Rao were among those who were present. A large number of children from various schools and few junior colleges participated in the programme.
