Welfare and development of tribal people is not the responsibility of the government and or the tribals alone, it is the responsibility of everyone in society as tribes are a cultural legacy of the mankind, speakers at the launch of compendium ‘A Vision Document for the Janjatis of India’.

Vanvasi development is not just responsibility of the government or tribes but of entire society and most officials working with tribals lack commitment, All India organising secretary Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram P.V. Somayajulu said explaining the background of the vision document. The document was a result of extensive consultations with tribals and persons working with tribals across India.

It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure welfare and well being of tribals as our cultural heritage originated from them. There is a lot we have to learn from the tribals, he added.

Appreciating the efforts that went into preparing the compendium, former Additional Registrar of Cooperatives and honorary president of Girijana Aikya Vedika Ondru Rama Murty said the tribals have to thank the commitment of non-government organisations working for their welfare.

He lamented the increase in number of persons cornering benefits of the STs by using fake certificates.
