Lovers of Telugu language and admirers of Telugu litterateur Sri Sri recalled his contribution to society and Telugu literature on the occasion of his 30{+t}{+h}death anniversary.

On Wednesday morning, groups of writers and admirers gathered at the statue of the revolutionary poet on the Beach Road and recited excerpts from some of his well-known works.

While the poet has admirers in all sections of people and across all ideological affiliations, each group felt it appropriate to showcase their affiliations while paying tributes. In the evening another group paid tributes at the statue.

A literary group organised a discussion on the works and contribution of the poet. Speaking on the occasion noted writer and translator LR Swami noted that translations and comparative studies of contemporary poets would help better appreciation of the works.

The command of the language helped Sri Sri write it in a language understood by the common man and made him a popular figure among the masses as well as literary circles, writer and former professor of Andhra University Chandu Subba Rao said.

Hindi litterateur and writer Y Lakshmi Prasad called for research into works of Sri Sri and said a comparative study of works of his contemporaries in other languages would help people appreciate the value of the works.
