The 44th annual convention of the South Indian Sugarcane and Sugar Technologists’ Association (SISSTA) concluded here on Saturday with a call to make a concerted effort to increase sugarcane productivity.
The convention attended by 600 delegates from various parts of South India elected the new executive committee for next two years. The new team of SISSTA included M. Prabhakar, president, and K.V.R.K. Ugender (Andhra), K.G. Muthuvelappam (Tamil Nadu) and Jagadish Kulkarni (Karnataka), vice-presidents.
Mr. Prabhakar, who was the vice-president of SISSTA in the outgoing body, is vice-president-Sugar Division at Nav Bharat Ventures Limited, Samalkot (East Godavari).
Mr. Prabhakar said they resolved to make efforts to increase expenditure on sugarcane agriculture, mechanisation and raise the number of operation days of sugar mills from 120 days to 165 to 180 days by adopting superior technologies.
This was the biggest congregation of sugar technologists. The two-day discussions covered entire gamut of organisations dealing with sugar and allied industries. An exhibition was organised to showcase updated machinery, technology and products.
