His expressive mastery of violin left a select group of the city’s elite spellbound. Born in Kenya and having immigrated to the United States, Jaime Jorge, 44, who learnt the art of playing on violin at the instance of his mother, has a passion to entertain audience world over for a cause.

His recital organised by AsianAID USA, an organisation active in the United States to raise funds for charity in India and various parts of Asia, at Hotel Novotel at a pledge dinner on Wednesday wowed the audience.

The quality of string music and clinical precision with which he performed violin tuning, fingering, caring, and bowing was quite impressive. “It was simply wonderful,” remarked Tamanna Mehdi, an entrepreneur.

“I feel privileged to have heard live an international musician of the calibre of Mr. Jamie Jorge in Vizag. His music was absolutely fantastic and enthralling. Even though an international star, he is so humble and posed for photographs and spoke passionately to all who spoke to him. I hope he comes back to perform here again,” said INTACH convener P.V. Prasad.

Over past two decades, he conducted over 2,500 concerts in over 45 countries spread over six continents. He has brought out 17 albums.

Cheque presentation The concert was presented to mark handing over of a cheque for Rs.3 lakh by AsianAID USA to Vizag Viking Round Table 213. “We are grateful to them for giving us an initial grant of Rs.3 lakh to construct six classrooms in a dilapidated government school at Kothavalasa near here,” Round Table chairman Sourabh Dhanuka said. Rs.22 lakh is being raised in association with BVK College for the project.

AsianAID USA has sponsored study expenses of 6,000 children in India and is taking care of 160 students of a visually challenged school at Bobbili in Vizianagaram. “We are sponsoring education of 90 children of a school located in a slum in the city at Allipuram,” pointed out Jim Rennie, CEO of AsianAID.
